You’ve been thinking about designing a custom engagement ring. Or maybe you want to restore your grandmother’s vintage bracelet. Either way, there’s one question circling your mind: How much is this actually going to cost?
And right behind that question is another one: Is it weird to bring up money?
Short answer? No. Talking about budget isn’t awkward. It’s necessary.
I’ll be honest, for years, I dodged this conversation. Asking about money felt pushy, like I was only interested in the sale. But here’s what I learned: I can’t help you if I don’t know what you’re working with. Not knowing your budget means I’m guessing. And guessing wastes both our time.

When you come to my Eau Claire studio for your first consultation, I’ll ask what you’re hoping to spend. Before you panic, know this: I’m not trying to squeeze every dollar out of you. That’s never been my style.
I ask because your number helps me figure out what’s possible. Maybe you want a custom engagement ring with a specific gemstone. If you tell me your budget is $3,000, I can steer you toward stones and settings that shine within that range. We might choose a sapphire over a diamond. Or pick a simpler setting that lets the stone do the talking.
But if I design something that costs $8,000 without knowing your limit? We’ve both wasted time. Worse, you might leave feeling discouraged when really, we just needed better information up front.
Knowing your budget lets me:
Good news: most people don’t. Custom jewelry pricing isn’t exactly common knowledge.
I’m not asking for a precise number. I just need a ballpark. Are we talking $1,000 or $10,000? That gives me enough to work with.
From there, I can show you options, explain trade-offs, and let you know if your vision is going to cost more than you thought. At least then you can decide whether to move forward or save a little longer. You’re making an informed choice instead of flying blind.
Let’s say you want to restore a family ring. If I know you’re working with a $500 budget, I can recommend a smart repair that preserves the piece without breaking the bank. If you’ve got more room, maybe we do a full restoration. Either way, you get options that make sense for your situation.
That’s the whole point. I’m not here to sell you the priciest option. I’m here to make something you’ll love that actually fits your life.
Money talk doesn’t have to be uncomfortable. When you work with me, you’re working with someone who listens first and designs second.
Whether you’re creating a custom engagement ring, restoring an heirloom, or hunting for the perfect vintage piece, I’ll make sure the process feels right.
Let’s figure out what we can create together. Schedule your consultation, and we’ll go from there. And follow me on Instagram for inspiration and ideas.
